Hi, Jim.

The following URL contains instructions on how to import Thunderbird 
email folders to Outlook.

Frankly, unless there is an easier process I'd probably stick with 
Thunderbird unless he really wants to use Outlook.  However, if he is a 
screen reader user I can somewhat understand why he might want to use 
Outlook as JAWS does a good job in supporting it and Window-eyes 
probably works well with Outlook 2010.
