Hi Brett,
I first have to admit I don't know too much about getting texts in languages
other than English. It sounds as if your student is learning English while
she is learning the computer. Having worked with ESL students before, most
don't learn what a "tool bar" or "ribbon" are while learning English
vocabulary. I found that simply by explaining some of the basic terms
within the texts are helpful. Getting technical is okay as long as the
vocabulary is explained well.
Good luck!

Hi. I just got a new client who is from Iraq.
She has been attending a comunity college and I honestly don't know how she
has done it without computers. She can type for the most part but is still
in the intermediate level. She is trying to find an interpreter because she
doesn't want to miss anything in our sessions. I think this would be a great
idea but I'm also thinking recommending to her some kind of intro to windows
while we search for an interpreter. One of the books I use or have used in
the past was the Windows Explained. It was concise and not overly technical.
I've contacted RNIB and they don't have this available in arabic.
I have thought about translating the english version with word and having
saved as mp3's but not sure how good the arabic speech is.
Or maybe some sites to find materials in other languages?
I really apreciate the feedback I get from this list.
Anybody have any thoughts on this one?
bb
