[Trainer-talk] Deaf Blind IPad Access

Hello,
I would keep trying to find an IPad/Ipod/Iphone solution. But, I am
wondering if a different device might be a better option if her purpose is
to record. For example, the Victor stream is an excellent recorder that
records in noisy environments and has a specific button to press when one
wants to record, unlike the IPad that requires one to navigate to the
utilities menu. Of course if a goal is for her to listen to this device
playing back the recording in this environment, the Stream might not work
unless maybe noise canceling headphones were used in conjunction with it,
which also might be an option for the IPod. The stream might not be the best
alternative because its volume does not go loud, but I bring it up because
there may be other devices with simple features, such as a button for
play/pause, record, etc. Note I am unfamiliar with coclear implants and
whether or not headphones might be an option. Or, even with something such
as the IPod, could she use one of those mics that are made to block out
noises other than that of the person speaking into it? Just food for
thought. Anita

Hello
Has she tried a Bluetooth headset that works with a cochlear implant? You
can read about it in this blog
http://contradica.blogspot.ca/2008/07/bluetooth-headset-with-your-cochlear.html?m=1
Some people connect to their iPods so the iPad will work, but it will also
depend on the noise in the environment.
You mentioned that she cannot read Braille but could she learn Braille as
an input device. There is an app available for blind people to use Braille
input rather than the qwerty keyboard. There is also the Flesky app which
was specifically made for blind people.
Good luck
Bob
