[Trainer-talk] 2nd Generation Victor Reader Stream and External Microphone

Mauricio,

I use the MP3 96KBPS when recording, and that seems to work rather well for me. I usually record lectures, meetings, etc. I find that the recording quality is good using this setting, but it is the playback of the recordings from the VRS speaker that is lacking. When playing back my recordings I use headphones or a set of external speakers to clarify things (this actually works very well for me). I guess I diagnosed the problem as a playback/speaker issue while you diagnosed it as a recording issue. (We are both probably correct!) I understand that your student does not have much success listening to his recordings using headphones, so would using some strong external speakers be an option? I am just thinking that external speakers are most likely cheaper than a quality external microphone (an assumption on my part), and if either would work why not save some money!

Respect,

Amin

Amin,

Actually, I have tried all recording settings but that which records in WAV; this reduces the recording time available drastically. If you have a specific setting you have found to be sufficient, I would appreciate learning which it is so that I can revisit that setting for a reevaluation.

Thanks,

Mauricio

Have you tried to play around with the recording settings? The second generation VRS recording quality can be vastly improved when the recording settings are tweaked(or that has worked in my experience at least).

Respect,

Amin

Hi All,

For anyone who has worked with both the first generation and second generation Victor Reader, you are probably aware that the recording quality of the second generation is very poor, especially when compared to the first generation of the device. I am working with a student who is hard of hearing and wears hearing aids. He would like to use the Victor Reader in class to record lectures, but after using the recorder for just this purpose, despite sitting in the front row, his instructors can barely be heard on the recording. Listening to the recorded lectures using headphones helps only slightly. Placing the recording on the instructor's podium is not the solution. Does anyone have any recommendations for an external microphone that would work well with the Victor? Thank you in advance for any assistance provided.

Mauricio
