[Trainer-Talk] NVDA speech delay with Windows 10

Hi, Sally.
I am not certain that this is specifically a Windows 10 issue. I have used NVDA with Word 2010 on several Windows 7 machines and the responsiveness is quite snappy, what you would expect from any screen reader. However, on a similar system at home with 8 GB of RAM I notice that the responsiveness is not quite as snappy. The main difference is that my home system, where I notice the problem, is a 64-bit system and the systems at work are 32-bit. As I said, the 64-bit system does have 8 gigs of RAM which is more than adequate. The version I am running at home, however, is Word 2013 and not 2010. What is even more odd is that the slowness occurs in one user profile and not in another. I have disabled everything in Word
that would seem to be connected with this issue but nothing works.
I guess I'm trying to say that this may not be Windows 10 related. I have, for the moment, given up on tackling the problem. As a very temporary fix, your student could try putting Word in draft mode from the view menu and making sure that the window is not maximized, as these two steps seem to make a difference and responsiveness may improve.
