[Trainer-Talk] Notetaker information

Hello. I can talk with some knowledge about the ElBraille. It miht meet your needs if you like Windows and know JAWS. I sent mine back for a refund, but others like them. I sent it back first because it isn't an instant-on device like a notetaker. You can't put it to sleep at all. That was the major reason for returning it. Secondarily, I really did not like typing or reading on the Focus, especially typing. The location of the space key was hard to get used to, and the display is somewhat clicky. to use it fully, assuming you're using the braille keyboard, involves learning a lot of odd key combinations. there's a system to it all, but it isn't effortless. If you attach a keyboard, that problem goes away, but so does a little of the portability.

I could have learned those combinations, and could have overcome most of my displeasure with the Focus, if the device were of the sort that you can switch on and off with instant result, but it isn't.

It would be beneficial for you, if you haven't already done so, to figure out what features you need in a portable device. Does it need to connect to the net? If so, the Vario Ultra is out. Can you write on the device and save files in some non-Word format for later editing on the computer? These and other questions will guide your choices.

Hope this is of some value.

Dean

Subject: [Trainer-Talk] Notetaker information

Good afternoon. I would like information—pros and cons—about the BrailleNote Touch, Braille Sense Polaris, and the El Braille. I work at a newspaper and write novels and would like a more portable device than a laptop running Jaws and a Braille display. Also, what Braille displays have more crisp cells than the Focus? Thank you. Sarah
