Hi. I have to admit I did not read the original message in this thread.
But the program you are referring to is:
Audio book creation exchange
www.acx.com/
There's a lot of information there as well as tutorials and FAQ's for
producers, voice actors, authors, editors, and much more!
The money is there but you have to find it.
It's not as easy as it looks.
I'm talking about the abcx program.
But yes, production iteself is not for the casual person. It takes a lot of
drive and patience
Hope this helps

Subject: Re: [Trainer-Talk] Audio book production questions
Sarah,
Audio recording is a real art / science. Even with as cheap as things
are.... it will involve a lot... a lot of work. I've done some basic audio
production using Audacity and a $50 microphone and it really adds up over
time. I know Josh De Lioncourt has several of his books on Audible and he's
a self-publisher I believe. Also blind. I recently listed to Pilot X by Tom
Merrit on Audible; an he self-published on the Amazon Kindle store as well.
So I don't know if there was some sort of profit sharing mechanism with
Audible, a Amazon Company, or if he had to put some money on the barrell to
get them to professionally produce it.
But if your really wanting to pour some time into it... There's tons of
Podcasting how to's online and Librivox use to have some great documentation
about microphones, setup, editing, and software. I just to get my feet wet
recorded a little 15 minute segment for Librivox just to see how it went and
get some feed back from the editors. There a group or company of blind
trainers who give a tutorial on using professional audio editing software; I
feel like they were recently on MainMenu and outlining what they used; I
want to say it was Gold Wave or something.
And the Training was very cost effective; as was the software..
I'm pretty positive this episode of Main Menu mentions the training program.

Hope that helps

I'm writing and would like to make them available as audio books. What
recording software works well with Jaws? Can I edit things such as when
pages turn, which takes some time? What microphone and headphones would
work? Thank you. Sarah
