[Trainer-Talk] Using NVDA with K-12 students

Hello,

Agreed. I would teach as many different options as you can... it is only
another tool in the toolbox after all. NVDA is free, and much easier to
obtain. JAWS is used widely in the workplace, and contains advanced
features that NVDA lacks. I would argue that Narrator in Windows 10,
VoiceOver on the Mac, and Orca or ESpeak-Up in Linux land would be great
options as well. A blind person can never have too many options.
Furthermore, NVDA and JAWS are, fundamentally, similar... as a trainer, I
believe strongly in teaching fundamentals over endless keyboard
shortcuts... especially with kids. It is so important that people
understand what that keyboard command does, instead of just memorizing
keyboard shortcuts... learning to access the start menu, taskbar, system
tray and desktop along with navigating file/folder structure and web
pages/word documents is very similar with both screen reader combinations.

Thanks.
