[Trainer-Talk] Trouble deleting slides in PowerPoint 2010

I have a student using a Windows 7 machine, with Office 2010 and Jaws 15.  We're having issues with deleting slides.  I've tried the instructions in my ATI tutorial and tips I found when I did a Google search.  None of these have worked.  I am far from being a PowerPoint expert and suspect I'm skipping a step or don't have the cursor focus in the right place.  I'd appreciate any suggestions on how to get this accomplished.
