[Trainer-Talk] [External] EVER HEARD OF THESE APPS?

Nancy is correct, Read and Write was not designed for blind users. There are parts of it that have keyboard shortcuts, but also parts that are not accessible. It is a great program, however, if you are blind and need word supports or writing supports due to other learning challenges, it is not fully accessible at this time. BoardMaker is used mainly for visual supports for individuals who may need reading supports in class, visual schedules printed out, or augmentative communication overlays for keyboards, augmentative communication devices, or for single switch scanning. The Boardmaker library has recently been embedded into Immersive Reader on the Office 365 subscription. Clicker 7 is designed also to offer visual supports for reading along with word banks for writing. It can be accessed by multiple inputs including single switch scanning. There are samples that come with the program. The company has a wide range of other products designed for reading and writing.

Both Boardmaker and Clicker 7 also have libraries of files created by other users of the programs that are available for shared use. They are also both great programs, but again were designed for specific use. There are ways in both programs to turn on auditory supports such as for touch screen users to hear the item before selecting, or for single switch users who also have visual or cognitive issues.

Hello:

Read and write is not meant for blind users as much as for people with other reading disabilities. It may have improved, but some things like menus didn't used to read. It is self-voicing and at least didn't used to be very compatible with blindness screen readers.
