Under the security account as well, you can check the box to allow less
secure apps, (which is the way Google allows Outlook to read its email)
instead.

Yes, go to accounts.google.com and sign into your account. Click on the
Security menu and the Security page will come up. There should be a
heading/link for App Passwords after the heading for 2-step verification.
Click on App Passwords and there are some list boxes that ask you to choose
the device and application you want to create the app password for. After
selecting, choose the Generate button and a dialog will appear with your new
app password.

 As I recall, you have to log in to the gmail site, and go under settings
account settings and security.
