Hello:
I may be wrong, but Perky Duck is often used by braille transcriber students to prepare their lessons. Not all keyboards work with it.
To find out if a keyboard works with Perky Duck, press the s, d and f keys together. You should see each of the letters in a string. The order doesn't matter. Hope this helps.
Regards,
Robert

Hello! 😊
Thanks for reaching out with your questions. I have used Perky Duck quite a bit, and, unfortunately, no, there's not a way I can think of to change the settings in JAWS to read the contractions or letter instead of the dot combinations. It will say some contractions, like T H E sign, O U sign, but as far as, say, saying the whole word or the contraction as a word like "the" I haven't found a way to do it anywhere in the program or in the JAWS scripts.
Perky Duck is more of a "braillewriter" sort of program where one can braille freely anything (like a Perkins Brailler, only digitally) so it does not translate to and from Braille unless you install Duxbury Braille Translator which costs big bucks. 😊 That app is just like Perky Duck but with all the bells and whistles that Braillists use to translate.
Hope this helped a bit. Have an awesome weekend.
Humberto

I have the latest versions of JAWS and Perky Duck. Is there a way to change settings so JAWS speaks the contraction instead of the letters?
