[Trainer-Talk] Looking for a headset with microphone.

I Love my JLab Go Work Office Bluetooth 5.0 stereo headphones I found on Amazon for $39. A Great boom mic that cuts out all background noise for the other person, and a physical round mute button on back of the left ear cup. All of the controls are found on that side. I am right handed. And this may seem odd at first to some people, but it actually works very well. Mute is the only big round button on the back of the left earpiece. they have a 45 hour battery life at least. So I can use them all week long at work if I need to. they have talking voice prompts and tell you the battery level. It wil pair with 2 devices simultaneously, and is built like a tank, on ear, but well padded, light, and adjustable.

Lest this sound like too much praise, they aren’t perfect. Nothing is. But people on the other end say I sound great. It cuts out all the background, from a fish tank, two dogs barking, to TV or people in the nextroom. As long as you keep that boom right in front of your mouth.
An equivalent Plantronics would cost $250. A transparency mode would be nice. I usually keep one of the ear cups on the side of my head because I don’t like having my voice stuck up in my head when I’m trying to talk. They sound great on music. They use passive isolation. They do come with an external USB-C to 3.5mm cord you can use if the battery dies.
Under the Jaws sound card menu they have two profiles, stereo and hands-free. At first, I set Jaws to use The stereo profile, but lost speech. hands-free Mode works okay and sounds good. but if you’re not in a meeting, it can cut out the beginnings of words. Unless you use something like The free software Silenzio. So I usually just leave Jaws on my laptop speakers at a low volume. No one can hear it. The problem with the hands-free profile is you can’t use that new feature to route jaws to only one ear. It says not supported.
I like the Bluetooth because I can run to my coffee pot, or even go sit on the swing in my driveway and hear the other people in the meeting, and they can hear me. But you’re still limited to 40 or 50 feet. The reason Plantronics headsets are so expensive is they use their own wireless protocol and might go up to 800 feet away from the base station. Also when you hit the physical mute button on one of their headsets it actually shows you as muted to others on a call or meeting. it’s directly synced up with the buttons in teams and zoom. The physical mute button on this headset just turns your voice off, but you still look unmuted to other participants in the meeting. That does not bother me. At least I know that button works. it’s tactile, and you can feel that it’s on or off .and there’s a red light on the tip of the boom for those who can see a little. when I pair it with my work phone and the computer they both work simultaneously. you can take a call from your cell phone if you need to. That’s cool. And it doesn’t cut out any words for voiceover on the iPhone. However, if you’re in a meeting you lose the ability to hear voiceover or any notifications that might come in. That’s how it works with any of these multi device headphones that I have tried. They won’t interrupt each other. And that’s understandable.
The headphones charge with USB-C in a couple of hours. Also on the left earpiece there are three small buttons on the side. The first one is slightly separated, and falls under your thumb at the bottom making it pretty convenient to hit. This one is for power on and off, pairing, answering and hanging up calls, starting and stopping music, and skipping tracks we’re moving forward in podcasts if you double press. The other two are for volume up and down. Or by holding one down you can change the headset from music mode to voice mode. I have not found that feature to be of much use, but it’s nice that it’s there, and it does not affect the listening experience for the person on the other end.
Bottom line, at this price point it lacks a few of the bells and whistles of headphones that are much more expensive. However, for a headset that tries to do everything, this one has the features I want and comes damn close.

In addition to price, features and conveniences the most important question that I would have about any headset being recommended is how does it sound to others? Great features, a good price and comfort honestly mean nothing to me if people I communicate with think that I'm speaking out of a tin can. That being said can you comment on the microphone's ability to deliver good sound with any of these models?

Hi Kat,
I use these here. I like them. They allow me to hear my surroundings and yet I can hear what's coming out of the headphones very clearly.

Here is another set. This description comes from a good friend of mine and I trust his opinion.
I personally own and love these headphones. Partly just for the physical mute button on the boom, the fact that they last an entire work week on a charge, and they cut out all noise, even on regular phone calls. The rest speaks for itself. These are USB C and can be used wireless or wired. I know of nothing in this price range that even comes close!

Subject: [Trainer-Talk] Looking for a headset with microphone.

Hi All,
I wanted to reach out, as I'm looking for a headset with microphone as I'm in a lot of meetings at work and it's been said that other participants hereJAWS. I am having to mute myself for the duration of the meeting and email my responses when I asked questions. I know that Chancy had mentioned a logitech headset that she uses, that has a microphone and all of the controls are on the side. If anyone can assist in regards to the exact model, that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Kat
