Hello Nancy,
I use iPhone with my hearing aids.
I once used oticon aids with a streamer device but had many difficulties as others have already elaborated.
For the past several years, I have used ReSound Quatro and have been extremely pleased.
The app eliminates need for an intermediary streamer or other device. It is easy to pair with iOs and stays connected.
The sound quality is good. Lots of options if your student is willing to persist with her audiologist in making make adjustments for various environments etc. 
I’m glad your student has such a good advocate!
