[Trainer-Talk] Spanish on iPhone

Hello, Nancy and Others,
While I do speak Spanish, and I don't have my phone and VoiceOver set to
Spanish, I have helped my parents with their phone numerous times over
the years because they do not understand modern technology. I set their
phones VO to Spanish and their phone UI to Spanish as well. I have
noticed that in a few instances, some of the translations on rotor
items, VO actions, ETC are a bit off or inaccurate. There are also a
few apps here and there that tend to somehow reset the VoiceOver
language to English, perhaps because this is how they marked up the app UI.
I can understand the frustrations encountered when doing translations
and interpretation services with your student; I am sure it is quite a
intensive time out of your lessons. I have helped my Dad with Microsoft
Translator and he now uses it for all things document translation from
Spanish, and yes, you are right, the app is stronger at translation in
writing than in real time speaking.
While I am sincerely sorry that I can not address your original issue
with my message, here's to the highest hopes that:
A) Apple takes VoiceOver translation more seriously and hires more field
testers and developers who understand languages other than English; and
B) Agencies for the blind and governments seriously consider the talents
of multiskilled and multilingual Access Tech instructors / trainers, in
their hiring processes because they are so greatly and direly needed in
our field, and because it actually bring in a lot of asset to
multifunctional teams not just for clients but all across the board.
Just my two sayings. It's a disheartening reality that this is not
really happening, at least from my firsthand experiences with seeking
employment and job interviews.
