This is extremely odd behavior and I don't claim to have a magic
bullet solution. One of the things I'm wondering about is how the
display settings might be affecting some of what you're describing.
Specifically, I'm wondering what your color settings and screen
resolution are set for. Frankly, this wouldn't explain why JAWS
would go silent upon invoking the options dialog with insert-V but
it's what I'd start looking into.<br>

After upgrading to 14, a couple of weeks ago, I have found a couple of problems that perhaps someone might know how to solve. When I run spell check or select text, JAWS becomes silent. Frankly, it almost crashes with spell check. When items are elected, it will not say what is being selected. It has nothing to do with the verbosity level and when I went into the settings menue
(Insert+v), it gets quiet there as well.
