I was looking at the Amtrak site, this morning.  I was trying to make a reservation for a trip at the end of the month.  The problem is, I could not find a way to select a date, other than today, for departure.  I could select a return date.  I did get a fare, which was lower than the fare I got when calling the automated Amtrak agent.  

Is it true that online fares are less expensive?  Can anyone suggest a way to make an online reservation, including entering a departure date?
