Here is latest updates for Cathy Vazquez with Norwegian Cruise Lines, these
are ships that I am interested in, but these will affect all ships.
Hello Cheryl,
I have the info on the Braille and they even sent me the photos so I can
review. The Braille on the Gem, Epic, and Jewel are in all elevators
and on all cabin doors. I asked about the deck directory that is on
each floor by the elevator as well as the directional signage (i.e.
cains 0001 - 0062) and we do not have Braille there but hotel operations
feels it is a relatively easy thing to do on all ships, so I will keep
you posted on that. We are also doing our homework on Braille menus.
With regard to the below, we should not be refusing assistance to anyone
who asks for it so I am very anxious to get the details so I can
personally investigate what happened.
I will await the information from you.
Thank you for bringing this to my attention.
Hope you are doing well,
Best regards,

Subject: I have another question or issue
A friend of mine, and no I wasn't her travel agent for this cruise, but
they
cruise every year and was recently on the May 22, 2010 sailing on the
Jewel
r/t New york Orlando-Bahamas cruise.
In fact, I did the Let's Do Lunch on that cruise, and we didn't run into
her.
Now she is blind, but did not take her guide dog with her, her husband
has
recently had hip replacement surgery in fact she let NCL know when
making
reservations about this, and is stated on her reservations with NCL.
She will be forwarding me the information in a day or so, so that I can
let
you know the exact reservations no.
Like I said they have sailed before on other cruise lines. She asked
that
at disembarking in NY City, that they get assistance with disembarking.
No
her husband is not in a wheelchair.
When she went to the pursers office to get assistance she was told that
she
wasn't disabled and didn't qualify for assistance in disembarking from
ship
in New York City, since she didn't need a wheelchair. They were very
angry
to say the least. Now it states on her reservations need assistance
disembarking from, and she had asked that when disembarking that she
needed
assistance the same way that I would, first I am not taking my dog on
the
epic, but with a cane and everyone pushing and showing, etc. It is
better to
get assistance to manuever through the maze of passengers or just the
ability if there is access to disembark differently since I am new to
this,
and didn't know about this myself what is protocol for this.
