[Travelandtourism] What it costs to select your seat location

Hello everyone,
Yup it's just a useless gimmick. If these airlines scrapped this
nonsense and created a "Deluxe" section in coach with more leg room and
wider seats then they'd be talking our language. It would then be worth the
extra $100.00 or so to sit there. Otherwise a round-trip ticket in First
Class can easily run you $1500.00 or more. We recently confirmed our hunch
that for purchasing two first-class tickets at the above price we could
charter a small piston single or piston multi prop and have the whole
aircraft to ourselves and a few good friends. One air charter company we
contacted quoted us $2720.00 for flying us to Dallas and back this summer.
If they had aircraft positioned at San Antonio International we'd pay way
less. There are several other companies we plan to contact for an RFQ.

After checked baggage fees, probably the most disdained airline fee is the
one for selecting your seat. Long a perk that came without charge--and one
that costs the airline nothing extra to provide--it's now just another
profit center. Here's what several airlines charge, if anything, for
advanced seat selection.
