We are not talking about going to the movies for the afternoon. We are talking about 2 or 3 days that a kid might miss.

I wouldn't allow my child to go to the movies in the afternoon instead of school

No it isn't bad advise.

  Michael:

On one hand I do understand what you are saying here. A child's education
is very important and if its possible try and reschedule your family
vacation when school isn't in session. However, there are times when this
isn't an option. The highest rates are during the summer when parks, hotels
and even cruises are out of most family budgets. And depending on your job
vacation schedule, you can't get the time off until later on in the year.

I have been on several cruises during the School year and I have seen lots
of families with school age children. Most School Districts understand this
and they even plan around your vacation if you give them enough advance
notice. Your child will get a lesson plan to follow for the week that your
  on vacation together.

There's no right and wrong when it comes to planning your families
individual vacation. All we can do as travel agents, is give them all the
options to help them make an informed decision. In the end they are going
to choose what works best for them and their budgets. If the budget says
best time to take a vacation this year is during the school year, that's
when they are going to do it. I would agree that if they can higher a
babysitter good for them. Not an option for everyone of course.

Really, encourage parents to take their kids out of school for a vacation.
I am glad to know what people think of their child's education, and what
kind of values this is putting in to their little impressionable minds.
I can just hear it now "mommy can I get out of school to go see this movie
at 1:00 instead of after school, it will be cheaper and less busy, after
all, you took me out of school for a week to go to Disney World.".
Uggg...bad advice for a professional, sorry Cheryl I do not think you should
be encouraging such behavior as a travel professional, and an officer of an
  NFB group.
