Good morning all:

A good friend of mine recently posted this on her blog about my upcoming
cruise for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International Fund-Raising Cruise:
Doing Yourself and Others a World of Good
By Christine Faltz Grassman
Have you ever felt a pang of guilt when you were indulging in a really nice
vacation, one of those you can only manage every few years - or even less
frequently? I have. As well-deserved and rewarding as little get-aways and
more extravagant trips are, I often find myself thinking about how much the
money I am spending could do for some person, group, or cause. I try to
remind myself that I am an outspoken activist that I do far more than many
to make the world a better place not just for myself and my loved ones, but
for as many others as possible - though I admittedly sometimes get rather
tired of those who think this is wussy or bleeding heart or a waste of my
energy - and I become even more greatly perturbed by those who feel entitled
to whatever they buy or enjoy because their circumstances or upbringing or
resilience allowed them the opportunities to get to a position where they
could indulge.
There are trips and vacations in which you can indulge which may seem - in
fact, which are - grossly extravagant and selfish to the vast majority of
the world - but which also allow you to donate something at the same time. I'm
not just talking about ecotourism, or green facilities and transportation,
or a learning vacation about the hardships faced by those far, far less
fortunate.

I'm talking about a trip that allows you to make a donation while you
luxuriate in a really awesome experience.

I've been on four cruises. In so many ways, they are the best bang for your
buck - the biggest downside is you have to reel yourself in when it comes to
the fantastic food. You never have to leave the ship if you do not want to:
clubs, gambling, art shows, auctions, wine-tastings, water sports, sometimes
even ice- or roller-skating rinks are there for you. Multiple pools, saunas,
a spa or two, a track, a fitness center.
If you want to leave the ship, fine: explore, or take advantage of tours in
one, some, or all destinations.
Cruises are basically floating resorts, or rather, floating villages.

How could this possibly help anyone? Cruises are often places where groups
get together to plan. They are also often used as fund-raisers, bringing
like-minded and like-hearted people together behind a good cause.

One such cruise is one taking place on the Norwegian Epic from March
31-April 7. 2012. . If you book, $75 of your investment in a great vacation
will be donated to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation by Norwegian
Cruise Lines, while another $25 per person will be donated to JDRF by
Echevarria Travel - in fact, this fund-raiser is being especially presented
by Echevarria Travel.

Cheryl Echevarria, a travel agent who has booked more than one fantastic
get-away for me, is sponsoring this cruise because she has juvenile
diabetes, and wants to raise awareness about it and find a cure for it. You
may not think $100 is a lot in the grand scheme of disease research, but if
you multiply that by scores or hundreds or perhaps a couple thousand
cruisers - well, that could make a difference. For more information about
juvenile diabetes, please visit:
