[Travelandtourism] Disney Headsets

Hi Peter and all,
Having spent four days at DisneyWorld and having used the handset for
all four days, I feel I can speak up about this topic.

The handset that they make available to us is a multi-purpose device
which can also be programmed for closed caption or "Ears to the World"
translation, along with audio enhancement for the hearing impaired. It
would have to be a pretty big app to do all that. Secondly, the charge
is only $25, and if you put it on your room key, it is like credit
that you get back at the end of the day, not money that they take out
then put back. Like Sheryl said, they don't hold your ID hostage,
either.

The device for Disney's parks has a neck strap. If you use that, as I
did, it is not easy to lose the device. When I went on roller
coasters, I simply had a cast member hold on to the device instead of
bringing it on.

One thing most people probably don't know: You don't have to use their
headphones. If you don't like headphones, like me, then they can mark
in the log that you borrowed the device without headphones and you can
use ear buds or whatever head set you want. Personally, I use ear
buds.

I think it would be nice to have an accessible app that gave people a
virtual tour of the parks, but I also don't think such an app would be
free, because of all the work that would go into it. But it would be
pretty cool to explore the parks from home before I go and get audio
descriptions of things like fountains, statues, and the waiting area
of rides prior to getting there. Not a necessity, just a "cool"
factor.

My two cents,
Jewel
