Some people have asked me, why I went into the travel business, one reason is I love to travel, second there are not many travel agents, that are blind, and that run there own business, and third there are not many travel agents out there, that now how to service the blind community.
I think joining the NFB in 2006 and going to my first convention in 2007, really made me look at my own independence, I was new to the whole NFB, and I still had more vision then what I had now, but still not what I would call usable out in the sunlight, etc.
This was also my first time traveling with Maxx, my guide dog, and I was traveling all by myself on a plane to a brand new location since losing my vision.
It was scary and exciting at the same time.
That was the year of our first March for Independence, I totally think we should do that again, and my favorite part of the whole convention was listening to Dr. Maurer's Banquet Speech. It was funny, but I loved it, brought light to me.
I have copied the link and attached it here. My favorite part of it, is when he said to someone at the airport. They said sir, you are going the wrong way, well he said, he just turned around and went the other way.
I follow what I learned from that.
I hope you enjoy my inspiration.http://nfb.org/images/nfb/audio/banqspeech/bsp-2007.mp3
