Here is that blog posting I was talking about earlier:
Good morning all:
I send clients of abilities and disabilities to the different Disney Resorts and Cruise Lines, and when they have new items out for the Disney Guest Experience, I have to check to see if it is accessible to all clients, especially the blind and disabled clients. If you have been following my posts, and what I do for a living as being a travel agent, especially a Travel Agent, who specialty the Special Needs realm.
Yes I do everyone who wants to travel and I make sure that all clients have the best vacation that money can buy.So, as of today Monday, January 7, 2013, when you book with me to go to Walt Disney World in Orlando Florida, and lets just educate a little bit on this end, because people call me up and they want to go to Epcot and Epcot is only one of the theme parks in the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.
Walt Disney World has (Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, MGM Studios, Animal Kingdom, ESPN WIDE WORLD OF SPORTS, 2 Water Parks, Downtown Disney - Shopping and other entertainment, miniature golf, Water Sports, and so much more!) plus free shuttle service to clients staying at the resort hotels from Orlando International.
Now I hope I haven't lost you.
The main topic is Taking the Disney Guest Experience to the next level: But is it accessible to everyone!
As mentioned as of today at the Walt Disney World Resorts in Orlando, FL. from the press release today it states:We’d like you to be among the first to hear from Tom Staggs, Chairman, Walt Disney Parks & Resorts, on how we plan to enhance the Guest experience. Our efforts are driven by a fundamental desire to exceed our Guests’ expectations, and we aim to make your job, as one of our valuable travel professional partners, better as well.
At Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, we continually push the boundaries of creativity and innovation to deliver the best possible experience for our Guests. We’re always looking for ways to take what we do and do it even better. Over the past few years, we’ve devoted considerable time and resources to create a more immersive, more seamless and more personal experience for each and every Guest who spends time with us. I know there’s been significant speculation about these efforts among our fans, so we’re pleased to give you a glimpse into the work we are doing to take the entire Disney Guest experience to the next level.
Some of these initiatives are more apparent and can already be seen by our Guests – like our interactive queues at Walt Disney World® Resort and the Enchanted Art on our cruise ships – while others are more behind-the-scenes and are focused on “how” visitors plan, access and enjoy their experiences with us. Over the next several months, we’ll be rolling out a collection of tools at the Walt Disney World Resort called MyMagic+ that will give Guests more opportunities to customize and personalize their entire visit.
Now that you know what I am talking about, I have sent out an e-mail to Mr. Mark Jones, Access Manager, of both Walt Disney World Resorts and Disneyland, to see if these are accessible to the disabled.
The blind and visually impaired clients can access kiosks and queues that have plugs on the machines like ATMS at banks and other places so that we can put our headsets on and plug in and use them, since we cannot few the screens, they maybe touch sensitive but it we cannot see them, then they are not accessible to all clients and guests.
We will see what happens on this. I will be having Mark Jones sometime in the future probably in April or May on the Echevarria Travel Show if you have been watching/listening over the last few months. Also when I attend the Annual National Convention of the National Federation of the Blind in July with the board member of the NFB Travel & Tourism we will find out for ourselves if they are accessible, or they have once again put out a product that is not accessible to everyone at the time of launching them.Disney and other places need to realize that you cannot have something and say it is for the Disney Guest Experience when some guests cannot experience them.
