Welcome to the list Jana. My name is Cheryl Echevarria, President of the NFB Travel & Tourism Division.
One of the reasons I became a travel professional is because of that reason, they don't know. A being around travel professionals that are not blind or disabled they say is to much trouble, and they say to me, well give me your card and when I get someone who is disabled we will send them your way.
I say that is great but why. I tell them as a travel professiona, you have to do the fact finding and the Q&A Questions out there. Whether someone is blind our not. I hope you are coming to the National Convention in July, would love to meet with you. Our meeting we focus on why blind people should travel. We also focus on the travel industry. This group has to do with all travel related issues, including working in the Travel Industry.
Jana, do you work with a host agency that you have a yearly contract with them or do you work at the agency itself.
If you are interested. I do work with a host, which makes me and Independent Contractor, and I am looking for people to work as sub-agents under myself, to eventually be more than Echevarria Travel. I have been in talks with Vice President Maurice Shackelford over the years about doing our own agency eventually that works with us the blind, deaf blind, etc. Since we know about disabilities.
Because in this business there is money to be made here, especially in the Accessible Travel Industry. There is over $300 Million Dollars to be made out there.
In fact, a good friend of mine who is the CEO of Special Needs Group, who has been on my radio show on the WTOE Network. He company does all the scooter/wheelchair rentals, Oygen and hospital bed rentals, guide dog relief box areas and more for the cruise lines as well as certain land locations.
His company also has a Special Needs Group Certificate program out there that is helping travel professionals learn more about people with special needs but they don't take advantage of it.
I would love to talk to you more about some ideas I have for you off line, if you want to write to me off list.
My number is 631-236-5138
Welcome to the group again.
Sincerely,
Cheryl Echevarria, PresidentNFB Travel & Tourism 631-236-5138cherylandmaxx at hotmail.com
