[Travelandtourism] airline service dog fees

Hi, all,
I am curious if airlines are once again trying to charge those who utilize service dogs as their independence of travel?
I ran into a passenger on a bus route last month or probably a few weeks ago who was telling me the airline he was going to fly with said he'd have to pay an extra $50.00 for his seizure alert dog to fly in the cabin and since the dog is very small, it would need to be sitting on his lap.
I'm uncertain if I would go that route of having a small dog upon my lap, given the times I've flown, the airplanes have hit rough tirbulents.
My concern would be that if it were to happen, the small dog could possibly end up with injuries.
I'm sure it can happen to a large dog like Odie too.
Odie and I did fly a couple of times together and my other two guide dogs went with me on the airplane.
The most important part I did on my end was to make sure my dog was underneath the seat lying comfortably along the wall of the aircraft cabin.
So, if the service dog fee is back into the question again, which airline is trying to do this and ones that are not?
