Good morning and happy holidays to all of our Travel & Tourism Division
members:

Last night was the last division meeting of 2015. Only 1 member besides all
the officers were in attendance. We are very upset at this. We work hard all
year to get you involved in this division, and we cannot have a division
without members.

We need to figure out what is going on with this. If you cannot attend
certain nights of the week or times, we need to know this.

You all paid your dues to be part of this, the officers are not the
division, you are the division and if we want to change the issues with
traveling more independently whether it is on a Greyhound Bus (which we are
working on with other divisions, we need your input), if you want to travel
on cruise ships more independently, I am actively working with the different
cruise lines to make this happen. This may be of interest as well, that we
need more and more people working in the travel industry to make these
things happen. I have written an article for the Braille Monitor and hope
they print it within the next couple of months on these issues.

Do you want to make things happen and be involved on making train travel
more accessible?

Or you would like more and more tour operators to understand what it means
to be blind and travel independently whether you are traveling within the
United States or outside of the country. We need to know this as well.

We need members as committee members, we had a trip planned for 2016 that
you all voted on for the NY State trip. To this date we only have 1 person
who has paid their dues. That isn't going anywhere now.

We are just frustrated with people paying their dues and not being involved

As of this moment, we will not be having our National meeting at the 2016
National Convention in Orlando, we will have it the following year. Several
of the officers, including myself cannot attend (since we will be moving
around the time of convention), and without the officers, we cannot hold a
meeting.

If you want us to bring different people from around the travel and
hospitality to our National Meetings, then we need your participation
throughout the year.

We need to know is why?

Why you are not attending?

Why you are not being involved in something you paid dues to?

We want everyone to live the life you want! Especially traveling more
independently, whether locally in your own state or

anywhere else you want to travel to

Sincerely,

President Cheryl Echevarria and the Officers of the NFB Travel and Tourism
Division

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the
characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the
expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles
between blind people and our dreams. You can have the life you want;
blindness is not what holds you back.
