It is a guide dog, not a sight dog. Just to clarify, Peter.
Or Dog Guide, Service Animal.
No offense you wouldn't have posted if you weren't blind, so we know this.
LOL, we are all blind is some form or another.
The reason it is piling up the e-mails, is that you are reply to the NFB
Travel & Tourism List.
We are not an active list, so no worries about asking questions. We need
people posting besides myself and hearing the crickets from people not being
involved.
Also, if your wife has any disabilities it will not affect whether you have
a guide dog or any other service animal. You might have to show to that
country if they ask if that does is a service animal. But you should not
have any problems whatsoever.
Being blind and being a travel professional. I book many clients who have
many disabilities and use service animals, from being diabetic to autism, so
there are many dogs out there for many different disabilities.
I have recommended that you reach out to a travel professional that knows
the ins and outs of this field, who not only does the booking of your travel
whatever that might be, but that can get you the proper paperwork and do all
the investigating for you.
There is a lot of information on the internet, a lot of it is outdated and
incorrect.
So, I hope you find and get the proper services you may need. I did write
you separately the questions you should be asking yourself and what you
should be asking of the Travel Professional.
Thank you and keep posting and come and join in on the next NFB Travel &
Tourism Division Meeting which will be March 17, 2015. I will be posting
shortly for the meeting information.
Have a great day
Sincerely,

Hi Jana-
Thanks for writing. I know emails can multiply (at least it seems that way
in my box), so yes, I'm writing back privately to anyone who responds.
Thanks all.
Just a reminder that the investigation I am doing is two - pronged. The
easy part is that my dog is a sight dog and recognizable as such. But area
that I also am trying to investigate is that my wife's dog is a service dog
(assistance dog) for a disability - not a guide dog. Does anyone know if
*she* could encounter difficulty there with her dog that is not a *guide*
dog? Anyone who knows anything about this *other* kind of service animal
rules, please do contribute.
I am back later than expected today and Cheryl/Janet I'll have to try you
tomorrow as promised. Hope to catch you then. Meanwhile, community
members, thanks so much for kicking in on this. Answers certainly have not
been forthcoming through bureaucratic channels. so I am all the more
appreciative.

FYI, Spain and France, U.K. and many European Countries allow Guide Dogs
from the US. They even have organizations like our own NAGDU.
I have written Peter off list so that I can possible help further with the
trip they are planning.
NAGDU also has this information on their website, www.nagdu.org
<http://www.nagdu.org> , which I
have sent them information over the years. For those that don't know NAGDU

I just want people to realize that it is a long flight as well when
traveling with your dog, they have to be the ones that can wait to go to the
bathroom, like my dog, Maxx. Maxx is getting older now and semi-retired, so
I don't take him on long flights, since he is still young and healthy and
having a really good doggie life with us.
Not getting another dog for a while, I am also a great cane user, so nothing
should stop us from traveling.

Hi Peter hope things are going well. When I went to France with my family
there was someone in the elevator of our hotel with a guide dog. I know for
sure that guide dogs are allowed in France but I don't know about Spain.
