Good afternoon all:
I found this very interesting today, when I was speaking to one of my
colleagues in the travel industry, and I had to look it up myself.
President of the Senate of the Island Country, Jamaica - Honorable Floyd
Morris.
He has been blind since the age of 17.
The Hon. Floyd Morris is a self-motivated and goal oriented individual. He
has through willpower and hard work made significant achievements in the
fields of academia, politics and community development. The Hon. Floyd
Morris is no stranger to the Senate, having previously served two terms as
Senator during the period 1998 to 2007. He returned to the Senate in 2012
and was elected as President in 2013. Senator Morris is the first blind
person to become President of the Jamaican Senate.
Sen. Morris holds a Master of Philosophy in Government from the University
of the West Indies (UWI). He also obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Mass
Communication from that institution. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of
Philosophy in Government at the UWI. He has done research into several
areas related to the inclusion of persons with Disabilities in several
aspects of Jamaican life.
Senator Morris is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of F.E. Morris
International Consultancy Services (FEMICS). He is the Coordinator/Head of
the UWI Centre for Disability Studies. Since 2011 he has been the host of
the radio programme "Seeing from a Different Perspective" on NewsTalk 93 FM.
He has also been a member of the National Advisory Board for Persons with
Disabilities in Jamaica since 1995. Senator Morris previously served as
Minister of State in the Ministry of Labour and Social Security (2001-2007).
The Honorable President is married to Shelley-Ann. He is a sports enthusiast
and a deft domino player. His motto is "It is nice to be nice."

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the
characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the
expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles
between blind people and our dreams. You can have the life you want;
blindness is not what holds you back.
