Good morning all members of the NFB Travel & Tourism Division and NFB
Greater Long Island Chapter Members

I just returned last night, October 21, 2015, from Whitehouse, Jamaica.

I am very proud to have attended the 6th Annual Home Based Travel Agent
Conference at Sandals Whitehouse.

>From October 15-19th, I was the only blind travel professional at this
event, my husband is the vice president of Echevarria Travel and he goes to
learn not to assist me. We stayed on the beautiful Sandals Whitehouse is a
majestic beachfront oasis within a 500-acre nature preserve.

The reason I am letting you all know about this is because there is always
more room to be home based travel professionals. But you need to be able to
travel to find out and explore what is out there, not only for yourselves
but for your clients. We also need to advocate for us, so we can "Live the
Life We Want".

I was also recognized at one of the many seminars, which is a must, at these
conferences, for working with Sandals and Beaches resorts for helping to
educate about people have special needs.

It was clear they understood that people with special needs are not any
different than those who are not special needs, just that they will continue
to help and grow in ways that they can to implement into their day to day of
the business for everyone.

I will be writing an article with the Press Release from Sandals/Beaches
Resorts for Gary Wunder.

Again, I am sharing this wealth of information with all of you, so maybe if
you are looking for a career to go into, we need more and more of the blind
going into this field. It is not a sit at home position, it is a work from
home position, there is a big difference.

Thank you.

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the
characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the
expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles
between blind people and our dreams. You can have the life you want;
blindness is not what holds you back.
