Officers elected were:

President, Fred Schroeder--re-elected; First Vice President, Seville
Allen--re-elected; Second Vice President, Althea Pittman--re-elected;
Recording Secretary, Stewart Prost--re-elected; treasurer, Mark Roane---had
been assistant treasurer; Corresponding Secretary, Mary Durbin--newly
elected.
Fred Schroeder elected delegate to the 2009 detroit national convention and
seville allen as alternate to that convention.

The Program included a segment on our 50th anniversary, included a review of
our history and introduction of our NFBV 50th Anniversary history booklet.
(if you want a copy of that booklet, please send that request to
ceoallen at verizon.net).

We heard from the fairly new Commissioner of the DBVI, the director of the
rehabilitation center--much change taking place there.

And, we heard from our McDonald Fellows and the effect our national
convention had for them. Barbara Cheadle of the national Parents Division
gave an excellent presentation on raising a blind child. We had a youth
track this year which focused on preparing for transitioning from high
school to higher ed or a job; dealing with teen issues regarding being blind
and dating, dealing with other teens and preparing for life. Also, there
were about 30 parents in attendance who say they are glad they were there.
There was a "cane walk" for parents and their children.

Four resolutions passed: dealing with : public school blind and visually
impaired students getting books on time; paratransit and covering beyond the
3 quarter mile area for job related reasons; thanking the Fredericksburg
chapter and the history committee, chaired by seville allen, for their work
on the history and convention. And thanks for a great convention.

Too, Saturday evening after the banquet, Chris Ramsay, a blind fellow from
Northern Virginia with a hobby of d jaying, d jayed a 50th's music and
dance, it was a lot of fun!

Sorry you missed it, Patrick, it was truly an energy making convention and
our Fredericksburg chapter did an excellent job of making it very smooth and
fun.

For the conference attendees,

How was the Virginia State Convention, did VABS get an infusion of
energy with a slate of officers ready to increase state-wide involvement?

Just curious,

Patrick
