The 
HSC Foundation Internship Program
 is currently seeking applicants for internships at cultural arts institutions around the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.  HSC Interns will enjoy close
working relationships with experienced theater and museum professionals, hands-on training, and the opportunity to be a part of some of the D.C. area’s
busiest and most artistically diverse museums, theaters, and performing arts centers.   

Qualified applicants will be between the ages of 18 and 25; have a documented disability or chronic illness; and demonstrate an interest in the arts.  Brief
descriptions of current openings are listed below.  Specific job qualifications and requirements vary by placement.  All HSC Interns will receive a stipend.

2010 HSC INTERNSHIP PLACEMENTS 

Group Sales/Audience Development Intern 

Application Deadline: Open until filled. 

·         March to May 2010.  Position may extend into the summer.

·         20-40 hours per week with occasional nights and weekends

·         This position is at Arena Stage in Crystal City.  The offices are accessible via the Metro.

The Group Sales/Audience Development Intern will support the Group Sales/Audience Development team with its efforts to cultivate and maintain relationships
with corporations and organizations to augment Arena’s group sales efforts.  The Intern will provide operational support for the department including providing
information on Arena’s group packages to inbound callers; maintaining office supplies; and creating information packets for Group Leaders attending special
events.  The Intern will also handle reservations and provide customer service to existing groups; research, contact and develop relationships with potential
new groups; coordinate special events for groups; and complete other tasks as needed.   Qualified applicants will have a Bachelor’s degree; previous ticket
sales/customer service experience; strong customer service and computer skills; and outstanding interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. 

Administration Intern

Application Deadline: March 12, 2010

·         April - August 2010 (Approximately 16 weeks)

·         20 hours per week. Flexible scheduling available.

·         This placement is with the Theatre Alliance in Washington, D.C.  The office is accessible via bus.

The Administration Intern will assist with the daily operations of a D.C.-based theater company.  The Intern’s primary responsibilities will include maintaining
accurate mailing lists; organizing mailings, including sorting, labeling and stuffing envelopes; filing; data entry; box office administration, including
ticket sales; and other general office tasks as required.  Qualified applicants will have general office skills and the ability to work independently. 
 

Education and Community Program Intern

Application Deadline: March 19, 2010

·         June 7 to August 27, 2010

·         30-40 hours per week

·         This placement is at Signature Theater in Arlington, Virginia.  The theater is accessible via Metro Bus and free parking is available in an adjacent
garage.

Signature Theatre is seeking a Education and Community Program Intern for the spring and summer of 2010. The successful candidate will work closely with
Signature’s Education Director, Marcia Gardner to conduct research, analyze and record survey results, prepare reports, and write materials for Signature's
lauded SIGNATURE IN THE SCHOOLS program study guide for Signature's award-winning, arts-education program with Arlington County Public Schools. The intern
will also assist in developing Signature's community outreach programs for the 2010/2011 season including programming and documentation for the Open House
and Summer Concert. The Internship will run for approximately 12 weeks. 

Education Program Facilitator Intern
Application Deadline: March 19, 2010
·         June 1 to August 15  (Approximately 16 weeks. Includes some weekend hours.) 
·         Approximately 20 hours per week

·         This placement is at the Newseum in Washington, D.C.  The museum is accessible via Metrorail.

The Intern will work with the Newseum’s education team to create and implement educational programming.  Responsibilities include participating as directed
in implementation of classes and education programs; managing large groups of students and chaperones; facilitating classes and activities for students;
assisting with daily set up for classes and education programs; and assisting with record keeping. Qualified applicants will have excellent written and
oral communication skills; have prior experience working with children in a museum or informal education setting; and be organized, creative and able to
solve problems independently as well as work as part of a team. The Intern must be able to work in a very physically active environment; escort large groups
of students throughout the building, between floors, up and down stairs, while maintaining constant supervision over the entire group; move continuously
for extended periods of time; and have stamina to work and be on the go for periods of up to two hours or more without breaks.  Intern must also be able
to work on Sundays. 

Theater Tech Intern

Application Deadline: April 1, 2010

·         June to August 2010 (approximately 10 weeks)

·         Approximately 40 hours per week

·         This placement is at the Theatre Lab in Washington, D.C.  The theater is accessible via the Metro.

The Theater Tech Intern will be involved with lighting design, sound tech, set design, production, stage management, and/or tech consulting.  During the
course of the internship, the Intern will support full-scale musical theater and theater productions.  As appropriate, the Intern will also research systems
and design enhancements that might benefit the overall technical aspects of the productions.  Qualified applicants will have demonstrated lighting or set
design experience and/or demonstrated production and stage management experience; be able to solve problems independently; and have strong communication
skills.  Interns must be able to transport equipment such as theater lights, sound boards, sets and props around the theater.  Access to booth requires
navigating approximately 15 steps. 

The HSC Internship Program is funded by the HSC Foundation and administered by the Accessibility Program at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing
Arts.
