Colorado is one of several states where Wright Country Eggs are being
voluntarily recalled because of possible salmonella contamination, the
Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment said.

The eggs are packaged and sold under several store brands: Lucerne,
Albertsons, Mountain Dairy, Ralph's, Boomsma's, Sunshine, Hillandale,
Trafficanda, Farm Fresh, Shoreland, Lund, Dutch Farms and Kemps.

Production date codes on the packaging range from 136 to 225 and plant
numbers are 1026, 1413 and 1946.

Anyone who has bought eggs can return the uneaten portion to the store where
they were bought for a full refund, the health department stated.

Salmonella can cause serious and possibly fatal infections in young
children, the elderly or those with weakened immune systems.

Colorado epidemiologists said confirmed cases of salmonella have spiked from
an average of about seven cases during June and July to 28 this year.

"Some of this increase likely is linked to this egg recall and includes
cases from a recent outbreak involving The Fort restaurant in Jefferson
County," according to a statement from the CDPHE.

A salmonella outbreak of eight confirmed and 20 suspected cases were linked
The Fort near Golden between July 10 and July 16. The illness was connected
to dishes - including rattlesnake cakes - that included eggs.

Besides Colorado, other states where the eggs were distributed are
California, Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, Minnesota and Wisconsin
