I don't have an accessible credit card terminal and find the one I use to be
easy enough other than reading the reports.
But after a long time and a few contacts I did have delivered to my store
today and will have installed this weekend an accessible lottery terminal.
G-tech, New York's lottery contractor had a story on their website of how
they provided talking, portable lottery terminals to Spain, since their
lottery industry is exclusively run by the blind.
About 4 years ago I showed that story to the chair of the Senate Gaming and
Wagering committee here in New York. They thought it was absurd that the
blind here in the U.S. aren't using accessible lottery terminals. Basically
it came down to the contractor being in the middle of a contract and if we
waited and requested non-visual access in the next request for proposal,
which we did about 2 years ago. G-tech was awarded the contract, a year ago
we talked about some basic design and a few prototypes later a group of us
are about to be the first in the country to use lottery terminals with
speech.
It's all coming with little fanfare but I won't depend on others to give me
information from my lottery terminal anymore.
