If it isn’t bad enough about Pepsi's huge increases and Coke's planned large
increases, Starbuck's is going up as well as the good 'ole fresh brewed cup.
And you ain't seen nothing yet. . .

1. Kraft Raises Coffee Prices 12%

by Staff Reporter
GLENVIEW, IL -- Kraft Foods Inc. raised list prices on its Maxwell House and
Yuban coffee brands in the U.S. The hikes went into effective Dec. 14, after
prices for green coffee rose to 13-year highs.
The price of Maxwell House and Yuban roast and ground coffee has increased
by 12%, or 35¢ a pound. Instant coffee costs 4%, or 2.5¢ an ounce, more.

Kraft Canada said it will raise prices in Canada on Maxwell House and Nabob
roast and ground coffees by 7% to 10%, effective Jan. 30.
Kraft last raised list prices in early August by 10% on the heels of a 9%
price hike by J.M. Smucker Co. on most of its Folgers, Dunkin' Donuts and
Millstone coffees in the U.S. Starbucks announced in September that due to
rising green coffee costs, it would raise prices of labor-intensive and
larger-size beverages.

2. Obama Signs Food Safety Bill
By Emily Jed Emily at vendingtimes.net

WASHINGTON -- President Obama on Tuesday signed a food safety bill that
gives the Food and Drug Administration new authority to prevent foodborne
illness.

The new law -- the Food and Drug Administration Food Safety Modernization
Act of 2010 (S. 510) -- marks the biggest overhaul to the U.S. food system
in the past 70 years.

The FDA will have more power to inspect food, make mandatory recalls if a
company does not volunteer to stop selling tainted products, trace food
outbreaks to their source and step up food inspections.

Congress still has to approve $1.4 billion to fund the bill.
