Kelly,
Thank you for your comments. My apologies for not getting back
to you from our last call. I did learn from our HR dept. that we cannot
run background checks for the states' purposes. (we are not really
equipped to do so on an on-going basis with staff and such.) But, Mr.
Cobb, our director of Human resources said he would be happy to
recommend the company that we do use here. He also told me that
generally to get a basic background check, which looks for criminal
offenses, it's about $27. This would probably be all you need for your
purposes. You can get more in-depth searches if you want to check
things like driving records, and financial reports, but I don't think it
would be necessary. It's kind of an ala-cart thing where you can choose
different kinds of checks, but each has its own price.
I highly suggest that you do have background checks done on your
mentors though to avoid any kind of issues that could creep up. I would
suggest that you have the checks run on those individuals as you bring
them onboard. You can also check with us to see if its an individual
who has volunteered here for a program. We can tell you whether or not
they passed our background check so you wouldn't need to have that
expense.
I apologize as I thought this might have been a possibility. I hope this
info is helpful though. You can reach Mr. Cobb here at ext. 2281.
Please let me know if I can be of any other help.

Sincerely,
Mary Jo Thorpe
