Tactile, three-dimensional work shown at 'Touching, Seeing' art exhibit in Jersey City
excerpt

Sometimes, art can touch those who see it. Other times, it can be touched by those who can't.

This Friday, Pop-UP Art in Jersey City will present, "Touching, Seeing," an exhibit featuring three-dimensional, tactile work that communicates past the vision barrier, reaching even visually impaired art lovers.

Curator Michelle Mumoli said the show was partially inspired by the work of blind painter Bojana Coklyat, who lost her vision to diabetes in 2007 but learned how to work through her disability, eventually teaching an art class at the St. Joseph School for the Blind.

"Touching, Seeing" will open on Friday with an opening reception from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. and will run through Mar. 1. It will be on display at Dames Coffee Shop, 581 Jersey Ave., Jersey City. For more information, contact Michelle Mumoli at (862) 414-0595.
