[blindkid] storage solutions

This gave me pause to put out a reminder of sorts...

Braille was always treated so negatively for my son, in addition to it being
HARD (perception of others) it was BULKY...always a PROBLEM in some way to
get it or keep it... yes it does give a reason to be thankful for electronic
and the portability, but I have been cautious to be sure and not transfer
the "hassle" factor of Braille to kids...c'mon, bulky or no...thank God and
Louis there IS Braille.

Interesting in that we once weighed one Braille volume and his math book and
the print math book was bulkier/heavier than the one Braille volume he took
home at night. SO when the TVI said (a hundred times) oh poor Jordan has to
lug around the big Braille once I did the demonstration that he did not
really have it worse in transporting home than anyone else.

We keep books all over, like Sandy and Michael, and in Rubber maid
containers in the garage, also Like Jason Jordan only takes the volumes home
from school that he needs. It indeed takes up space, but I am a book
lover--I have over a thousand of my own books on shelves at home.

Electronic is nice, but there is no replacement in feel, and in fluency
practice for building speed than with hardcopy pages of Braille.

And the offer to come to Florida for the winter is still open...I was half
serious (not about the building the garage part)

Smile,

Can't do it with math, of course, but it sure makes the case for electronic
braille files, doesn't it?

We ended up getting Michael a loft bed so we could put a desk and shelves
under it. Then we have two other 5 row shelves besides the shelves under the
loft bed and still end up putting some books on the top of those shelves.

Math books in high school run about 40 volumes or so..... so book space
problems just keep getting worse as they get older - Sorry!

Great question! I can't wait to hear the responses. This is a never ending

issue with us as well!
