Oregon schools for deaf, blind to share campus

SALEM -- The Oregon State Board of Education has voted to share a campus for
the Oregon School for the Blind and the Oregon School for the Deaf to save
money.

According to estimates, it would cost $12.8 million to upgrade buildings on
the school for the blind campus and $37.5 million for the school for the
deaf.

The board vote upholds state Schools Superintendent Susan Castillo's
decision to combine the schools on a 52-acre campus. Both schools have
objected to the plan.

The National Federation of the Blind-Oregon said it will fight any plans for
a combined campus.
