Thank you so much for your reply. I never really thought it was that serious but I suppose I may need to think the therapy route but I don't think I could medicate her. It really is based on her imagination. She steps on her sister's baby doll and is convinced she's stepped on some hair or when washing her hands in the bathroom she thought the soap bottle felt like a skeleton finger. She has gotten straight As at school where she is mainstreamed and is doing very well so I am afraid to jump too far into there being something seriously wrong. She really is a very happy child and when we can convince her to investigate the source of her hear she can calm down and resume her activity pretty quickly. I will definitely keep all that in mind. Thank you.

i, Lisa. I would suggest that you speak to her pediatrician regarding a
eferral for therapy. My line of work is alongside mental health therapists that
reat children ages 4 through 18. If what you have tried so far is not working
nd her panic attacks have increased in frequency (an maybe in intensity), it is
ime to try something different. What the therapists will do is assess her and
hen figure out exercises, coping skills to teach her and you to help her
ecrease them. If that does not work alone, maybe medication will help along=2
0
ith therapy.

t is important to intervene early so that she can learn skills to self regulate
hen she is triggered by things in her environment. I don't know if your
aughter is developing as a typical 6yr old or she might have some delays (or
robably, her reactions are due to sensory processing issues). If it is sensory
ssues, then occupational therapy would be a good idea to explore.

have a 7 yr old daughter, blind and with developmental delays who has
erious sensory issues. She's gotten better with OT and lots of hard work. She
ould start gagging just by me asking her if she wanted milk. Milk was her only
ource of nutrients from birth till age 4 1/2 yrs when she had bad pneumonia.
he stopped drinking and did not have anything by mouth for 11 days. After lots
f IVs and her getting better, we had to introduce milk, yogurt and apple sauce.
he never drank milk again until this day (by itself). She did opened up to
ogurt and did yogurt and puddin (some kind of meal meant for children with
ifficulties eating and swallowing). This is all thanks to sensory issues. It is
he way she perceives and processes the information through her senses. To her,
ill this date, milk makes her sick (although she eats thickened milk mixed with
estle Breakfast and oatmeal). This long example was just to give you an idea
ow horrible must be for your daughter the touch of certain textures. I am going
o provide you with a couple of websites that have=2
0checklists for you to see if
our daughter fits under the different categories. If she does, I would try and
et her assessed for OT.

his website is useful although the providers are located in the bay area, CA.
his one has checklists for you:

ttp://www.spdbayarea.org/sensory_processing_disorder_checklist.htm

ou may be able to find providers in your area.

ttp://www.spdfoundation.net/aboutspd.html

ither sensory or mental related, this DOES NOT TAKE AWAY that your child is
mart as other kids, or even a genius. It is just that this is something that is
urning into behaviors that can affect her in different areas (school,
elationships, social, not to mention emotionally). I hope this helps. You are
ot alone in this. Good luck and keep us posted.

nfrequent -?maybe a few times a year. They've been getting more and more
requent and we just don't know what to do. She hears something or feels
omething underfoot and her imagination is so rich her explanations are
lways?frightening and seem?so out there to me but to her they seem very real.
he just cannot move and begins screaming. Its just awful. I'm thinking its a

atient but I'm afraid I'm not doing too well at that.> Any ideas?? Thanks so
