[blindkid] Pre-Braille

Dear Marie,
I can just tell you that my daughter, now 16, had some "pre-Braille"
training when she was about 3 years old. She just practiced feeling raised
lines and shapes with her fingers in the proper position, which is meant to
start a good habit of using both hands to read with the fingers placed
correctly. She moved on from the raised lines, to lines of Braille dots.
She got to use a Perkins Brailler to type out her own dots and just get used
to them. It can be done in a way that is fun for the child and is good
practice for getting ready to read. I'm so glad you're pursuing Braille for
Jack! Jill Weatherd

We went to our IEP meeting and the IEP team did not deny Braille
instruction. Instead, they said something about pre-braille but really made
no firm commitment regarding instruction. Somebody PLEASE point me in the
right direction. What are pre-braille skills? It sounds kind of like
pre-literacy like you expose children to letters and stuff but the VI
teacher mentioned something about pre-braille books? What is this?

                        Hello everyone,
We just had aubrie's IEP for next year and it has been recommended that she
be tested for the "talented and gifted"(TAG) program. The verbal part will
be done using either the Wecsler or Stanford (spelling) and then a writing
test of some sort for the creative part. Does anyone have recommendations or
are they on the right track. any help that can be provided will be greatly
appreciated.
thanks
