In the August 9th Boston Globe newspaper there was an article about the
Berklee College of Music adding a curriculum for blind students that includes
Braille music notation and the technology needed to compose and produce
music for blind music students. They had a five week summer program to test
the technology and curriculum before starting the for-credit program this
fall.

They have had blind students previously the article said, but were not able
to provide them with everything they would need to read and produce music.
The developer of the curriculum, Chi Kim a pianist and songwriter,
graduated from Berklee and received a masters degree from New York University.
He learned Braille as a child in his native South Korea.

This information should give heart to the parents of blind children who are
musically inclined - that a major music school is not only admitting and
encouraging blind students but has a curriculum that will allow them to
develop the skills necessary to be independent creators and producers of music.
