I have to toot the horn a bit for my wonderful daughter. Ahbee Orton, who
won in the Apprentice division of the Braille Challenge last summer, has
been awarded the Chamber of Commerce 2009 Citizen of the Year award by the
Crowley, Texas, Chamber of Commerce. The other nominees were the mayor and
the director of a local charity & food pantry.

Ahbee's braille reading skills helped her win the Braille Challenge, and her
Braille Challenge success was cited in her award of Citizen of the Year.

Ahbee's braille skills are attributable to her teacher, Michelle Garrett,
and her transcriptionist, Mary Elliott, and her continued love of reading.
Ahbee has participated in the Braille Readers Are Leaders contest for
several years in a row, and  she took top honors in 2006-2007.

I'm a proud mom. Just had to share.
