Kathy,
Here is a good article on how the brain is stimulated in the same area by Braille as by print.
http://www.physorg.com/news/2011-02-brain-doesnt-vision-material.html
If we say that technology has made Braille obsolete then it can also be said that print is obsolete.
We can just watch movies and listen to digital recordings.
I do not think any teacher would agree with abolishing teaching of reading print but some will say that Braille is not necessary.
This is a warped and dangerous belief that must be challenged for the ignorant bigotry that it is.
Here is an article on how reading is necessary to brain health and how this same stimulation is not obtained through listening to audio books.

Subject: [blindkid] I'm writing a research paper and need help
Hi All-
I am writing a research paper and am looking for information to support my
hesis. Can any of you point me in the right direction? Below is my thesis.
arol, I included you specificly because I can use expert opinion, and I
onsider you an expert.
ven though technology is so advanced that some believe braille reading for the
blind is no longer needed, reading it is indeed important and essential for
oth blind children and blind adults: this form of reading expands a
ision-impaired person's world. In fact, reading for the blind also increases
reative and critical thinking and plays a huge role in helping blind adults
ontribute to society.
Thanks!!
Kathy
