Was just wondering how many others on here are going?  My son Roman is also going!  He is 13 and going into 8th grade.  He is very confident and as much as it is his strong point, it is also his weakness.  He thinks he can do EVERYTHING and so does not ask for help when he really needs it.  He loves running, Karate, chess, science fiction (Eragon, Lord of the Rings, etc.) and is very independant.  He wants to learn more about mobility and technology issues that we have.

Anyone else?

Oh yeah, we are from Missouri.

We just found out Ethan's been accepted into the Littleton, CO NFB
three-week Summer Independence program. He was the last of only eight
kids to get into this program. Whew!

There are four boys and four girls who will live in two-bed/to-bath
apts.; the boys with one counselor and the girls with another. There
will be the core classes or braille, and cane travel covered, as well as
their trip each morning by bus from the apts. to the Center. The
counselors will also take them rock climbing and hiking at some point,
and they're hoping to squeeze in a trip to a ball game, and white water
rafting, which is not always done by the middle school group.

I'm thrilled he's getting this opportunity, and believe it could not
come at a better time. He'll be entering high school in the Fall, and
with this experience under his belt, I think he'll have much more belief
in himself as he starts to navigate est, the turbulence of that arena!

Thanks as always to those of you we see at NFB who've encouraged us to
keep trying to get him into one of the summer programs - I think this is
going to be a great fit!

Best,
Leslie Ligon
