My son says they use one in his classroom. The teacher gives him a copy of
the notes being presented. He doesn't actively participate in those
presentations.

>> Hi group,
>>
>> A little off topic here. However, I am wondering if anyone knows anything
>> about ways blind kids are coping with the invention of the "smart board."
>> They are all the rage in my daughters classroom. She is sighted so this
>> is a
>> great educational tool for her. I sit and watch this technology
>> demonstrated
>> by her teacher just the other day and started thinking about myself being
>> a
>> blind child in this very sighted technical environment. If you have not
>> seen
>> a "smart board" the device allows the teacher to do various activities on
>> this large piece of technology board in the front of the classroom. The
>> children can touch various aspects on the board and make items change.
>> They
>> can use clickers to make selections as well as use dry erase markers on
>> the
>> device. The teacher can move and change items with their hand as well as
>> circle items and color change various portions of the board. This is
>> really
>> a virtual chalk board. So where does the blind child find themselves in
>> all
>> of this technology? I am worried for them. Again, great device for the
>> sighted kid.
