Alumni parent and co-author of Miracle Chase
What exactly is a miracle? That's the question three women try to answer when one of them faces a sudden tragedy. In the process, they transform a simple friendship into a powerful spiritual odyssey. Recent polls reveal that while more than 80% of Americans believe in miracles, few feel that a miracle could happen for them. Joan, Mary Beth, and Katie were no exception, yet each had experienced something extraordinary. The Miracle Chase is a story of how these three friends tried to discover what religions around the world have to tell us about miracles, why some people are blessed with miracles when other are not and how anyone could believe in miracles in an age of science.

                        Belo Cipriani
Friend of BBF and author of Blind: A Memoir
Imagine if the most severe physical pain and sorrow in your life were inflicted by the people you trusted most. In the spring of 2007, Belo Cipriani was beaten and robbed of his sight at the hands of his childhood friends.

Blind: A Memoir chronicles the two years immediately following the assault. At the age of twenty-six, Belo found himself learning to walk, cook, and date in the dark. Armed with visual memory and his newly developed senses, Belo shows readers what the blind see. He narrates the recondite world of the blind, where microwaves, watches, and computers talk, and where guide dogs guard as well as lead.

                        Julie Riera Matsushima
Alumni grandparent and author of For the Love of Aimee: A Memoir.
For the Love of Aimee is the story of a grandmother's sacrifice and devotion. Julie overcomes her own hardships in her determination to accompany Aimee two months a year for special therapy in Europe and elsewhere. It is also the story of a mother's love and desire to help her son, Aimee's father, and her daughter-in-law in their time of need.

For the Love of Aimee invites the reader to share in the disappointments, challenges and amazing accomplishments Julie and Aimee experience together during Aimee's first ten years. This incredible book will elevate the awareness of everyone touched by a special needs child to the difficulties facing them. The reader will find love, happiness and success where they least expect it.

                        Leon Borensztein
Alumni parent and author of American Portratis 1979-1989.
After emigrating to the United States from Poland, Leon Borensztein took a fly-by-night job as a traveling portrait photographer, visiting homes and businesses across the country and making portraits for working-class clientele in the style of the Sears Portrait Studios. During these sessions, Borensztein would set up a generic backdrop behind the subject, while moving the camera back far enough so that the camera captured glimpses of the subjects' personal spaces or belongings. The resulting body of work provides a rich sociological document; individually, these are some of the most compelling and touching portraits of their time. Leon Borensztein is an internationally renowned photographer whose work has appeared in Life, Harper's, The New York Times Magazine, and Vogue International. His photographs can be found in the collections of major museums such as the Art Institute of Chicago, Bibliotèque Nationale, Paris, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. The recipient of a Guggenheim Memorial Fellowship, Borensztein lives and works in Oakland, California.
