The first "camp" my son attended was a long weekend at the school for the
blind.  We lived in Texas at the time.  I stayed in a hotel in Austin so I
wasn't far away but he did great without me.

If you are looking for information for yourself, the National Federation of
the Blind convention in July is a great place to learn and meet folks.
 It's an investment to get there but it is really a great way for you and
your daughter to meet people and learn about blindness.
