Hi Sonya
Everyone has given you great advise. I handled the cane issue with our daughter in PK by putting it in her hand at home and then sending it to school. I did get a call from her TVI asking what they were to do with it. I said she is to have it with her at all times except in the class room where she is comfortable and then it is to be parked at the door. I never heard another word about it. Now I am sure at first they were blessing me because she has developmental delays and mild CP also and the cane was in the air and being thrown more then used but when she is without it two years later she is very fearful and refuses to walk.
Good luck. Independent exploration is wonderful. I also had it added in those words to her IEP.
