[blindkid] Where can I order Braille books?

Sorry to hear it. Not only is it frustrating for the parent (and child if she anticipated it), but the really foolish part for the school is it can potentially save them a ton of work and money.

Yes, the machines are expensive, but so is paying for braille transcription, and in many cases, these machines can help avoid a considerable amount of that. They also can provide access to materials (including books on bookshare) that often aren't available in braille through other, more traditional means. Kids get work done more easily and gain accessibility. Teachers have fewer hassles. Less transcription is required. Everyone wins.

Perhaps it is time to become a bit of a squeaky wheel?

My guess is they are delaying because of funding, but in the first place, I don't believe that is allowed, and in the second place there may be funds available or equipment available from other sources through equipment loans, etc. (It will be hard to convince them that they stand to save money from the purchase, but they probably will save a lot.) Just for a start, I think they are obliged to offer you an explanation as to their failure to comply with the IEP.

Anyhow, back to Easter-- If the talking watch might be a problem, how about a talking clock? Our daughter has talking watches that she doesn't generally care to wear, but uses talking clocks at home all the time. She sets her alarm now too-- gets herself up and (when the mood strikes her) dressed with no prompting from Mom or Dad!!! One particular favorite clock of hers (a Moshi Clock) will tell you the time upon voice request. Temperature too. Sets the alarm the same way, etc. We've had several others that didn't work very well. Moshi isn't perfect but it is pretty good, and Kendra loves hers. There are less expensive solutions that talk when you press a button on them, but as far as voice activated all the others we've tried have not been worth the money.

Happy Easter!!!

P.S. Below is a Moshi Clock for about $50, shipped.

No idea if that is the best price. I've seen them used from around $40 (ebay) and new as high as $70 or $80
